Back Up Your Data

Deauthorize and Sign Out of Accounts

Operating System AccountSign out of Microsoft/Apple/Google accounts.

Software LicensesDeauthorize apps (e.g., iTunes, Adobe, Microsoft Office).

BrowsersLog out and clear saved passwords and bookmarks.

Cloud ServicesDisconnect services like iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox.

Perform a Factory Reset (or Reinstall OS)

Wipe the Drive Securely (If Not Reusing)

  • DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke)
  • Eraser (Windows)
  • macOS Disk Utility with “Security Options” slider
  • shred or dd for Linux


Clean the Computer (Optional but Helpful)

Wipe down the keyboard, screen, and casing. Use compressed air to clean vents and fans.
